Now is the summer of our discomfort. A time for chub rub, uncomfortably hot tube rides, frizzy hair sticking to our faces. And, for those who are well-endowed in the chest area, underboob sweat.
A joy of sweat patches and slick skin and the need for bras to be thrown in the laundry basket at the end of every day. Underboob sweat is a bloody serious issue, and just another addition to the long, long list of annoying shit women have to put up with.
But thankfully, underboob sweat is not something that has to ruin your day, or your favourite T-shirt. There are things you can do to make your boobs’ summer a little bit easier.
1. Consider swapping to a summer bra
Anyone who’s dealt with the pain of sweat and chafing action rolled into one uncomfortable package will know that lace is the opposite of your friend on hot summer days.
Anything super padded, tight, or lacy isn’t going to cut it, unless you like being left with itchy, sweaty boobs with red marks in every area.
Shop around for something that’s a little more breathable. If you’re smaller on top and don’t need much support, under-wire free bralettes and bandeaus can be a life-saver.
2. But be careful when it comes to going braless
Sounds like a good idea, right? Lose the bra and you’re losing a layer, which should keep you cooler.
But be warned. As gross as it sounds, your bra actually soaks up a lot of the sweat collecting under your breasts. Remove the bra and that sweat touches directly on your shirt/dress/top, which can leave you with massive sweat patches.
Learn from my mistakes. Don’t skip your bra for the first time when you’re going to work. Do a trial bra-free day first.
3. Get some padding
Not regular bra padding, as that tends to just create even more sweat. We’re talking about slotting little pads into your bra to absorb excess sweat before it passes through the bra and creates patches on your top.
We’d only recommend this if you have serious levels of boob sweat, as it’s not the most comfortable solution. You can use pantyliners (stick the sticky bit onto the inside of your bra), or buy specially made boob pads.
4. Remember that deodorant works in places other than your underarms
Yes, you can put cooling deodorant in your cleavage and under-cleavage. It works.
5. Bring in some special equipment
There is such a product as a ‘breast sweat absorber’.
It’s called ‘Underboob’, and is an adjustable strap that fastens under the bra, absorbing sweat, forming a barrier between your sweat and the outside world, but staying comfortable and soft. Nice.
6. Take care to prevent chafing
Lush’s Silky Underwear or good old fashioned talcum powder will leave your skin soft, dry, and smelling fresh.
7. Try argan oil
One Bustle writer discovered argan oil’s glorious boob sweat fixing effects after reaching her wit’s end with sweaty bra syndrome.
A few drops leave your breasts super soft, smelling good, and magically seems to lessen sweatiness. It’s magical.
8. Give your breasts some breathing space
When you’re done going out for the day, free your boobs from their underwire cage, let them feel the air on their skin, and share the joy of summer with them.
Just a few bra-free moments in your back garden make the rest of this hot, sticky, uncomfortable season feel so much more doable. We’re going to make it.
