All teenagers are going through hormonal changes, which is the lead contributor to pimples and other breakouts. Learning about facial skin care is very important for teenagers to combat acne and other problems.
It is important to realize that younger skin is well hydrated but this can produce problems from being to oily. We all know oily skin can clog pores and cause whiteheads and blackheads. Even young healthy skin needs proper cleansings, moisturizing and exfoliating.
Most dermatologists recommend a very mild skin regiment for teenagers. Like all good skin care regiments, it should be done daily. It is also suggested a mild facial treatment specifically aimed at teens can be a benefit.
Before you begin any facial skin care treatment, you should learn your skin type. Below is a list of different types and the recommended facial treatment for each type.
1. Dry Skin
This type is usually very uncommon for teens, but it does exist for some. If you have, dry skin makes sure to use products that have moisturizing benefits. Choose cleansers and mask that hydrate. Beware of toning and other products that have witch hazel, alcohol and any products that will dehydrate.
2. Oily Skin
For the majority of teens this type is predominant. It is the cause for most problems especially acne and blackheads. It is very important to establish a daily routine that consists of cleansing products made for oily and acne skin types. When using a mask they should be clay based. Use only oil free moisturizers.
3. Sensitive Skin
It is important to learn early on if you have sensitive skin. Many products are made specifically for this type. They contain mild ingredients so not to exasperate any problems you may have. You are still able to exfoliate and use toning products. Be sure to be gentle when applying any facial product, never rub hard.
4. Combination Skin
Combination skin type means some parts of your face maybe oily others may dry out faster. Mild cleansers and light moisturizers are recommended with a hydrating moisturizer on the areas that are dry. Teens with this type should try to use products that contain alpha-hydroxyl acids.
For teenagers that suffer from problems that are more serious they may want to try treatments such as microdermbrasion, facial peel but only under the supervision of their Doctor.
Starting early with a proper facial skin care regiment will serve you well in the years ahead. Taking care of your skin will slow down the aging process and keep you looking younger. Always use sunscreen made for the face and use it everyday in every season. Nothing does more damage then sun exposure.
