Here are short descriptions of the different classic prom dress styles, just to help you choose the one that will go best with your body type.
A-Line
This style of prom dress hugs you snugly down to the waist, and from there it flows out as a full skirt. From top to bottom, the whole appearance is similar to the English capital alphabet ‘A’, and that’s the reason it’s known as A-line. This can be worn on almost any figure, except when you are overly bulky at the top.
Ball Gown
This is the classic style, reminiscent of the Victorian era. It usually has deep necklines, puffed short sleeves, a clenched waist and a widespread balloon skirt which flows from the waistline till the floor. Choose this style only if you are above average in height, because small frames may look fatter in this type of a prom dress.
The Empire Cut
The unique feature of an empire cut prom dress is its high waistline, which is right below the bust. The skirt begins just under the bust and flows down up to the ground. This is best suited for the pear shaped women, as also for those with thicker waists. However, if you are above average, in height, you’d better not try this style.
The Sheath Cut
It is a very slim prom dress style, and the unique feature is the detailed beading and sparkle work. This style hugs your body tightly, and thus it looks good only on well toned slim bodies. And if you are tall as well, then nothing can be better.
Tea Length Dress
This one is a little bit more casual in style, and the length of the dress is usually shorter as compared to most other prom dress styles. The length runs just a little below the knees, and so you must dare to wear it only if you have toned and slender legs.
