Boston, USA
Forget Turkey, in Boston roasted lobster is the dish of the day at Christmas. What’s more, a white Christmas is pretty much guaranteed here. The atmosphere is wonderful and the views are spectacular as literally millions of lights illuminate streets and houses making it feel like the most Christmassy place on earth.
Hong Kong
If you want to buy our own Christmas presents rather than risk yet more silly socks and hideous jumpers then jet off to Hong Kong where the shops are even open on Christmas Day. But be sure to take some time out to visit the 30 metre high Swarovski crystal Christmas tree situated in the Central district – a truly magical sight.
Munich, Germany
Arguably one of the first places to host a Christmas market, recorded back in the 14th Century, Munich is cold, atmospheric and near to superb skiing – all just a few hours away from the UK. Munich offers a Christmassy feel across the city and there’s more than 20 Christmas markets to explore.
Santa Cruz USA
Fancy sun instead of snow? Then head for fashionable Santa Cruz. Father Christmas hits the surf and you’ll spot many surfing the waves whilst enjoying a day at the beach over the festive season. The festive atmosphere is great here and gives visitors a great sense of Christmas spirit that’s very different, and huge fun, compared to what you’ll experience in the UK.
Christmas Island, Australia
If you’re the adventurous type then head off to Christmas Island for whale-shark diving, fishing, snorkelling and beautiful golden beaches. Dine on a Christmas dinner of fresh crab, lobster and fish all served up with a festive atmosphere for the whole family.
Sydney, Australia
Do Christmas the Aussie way and put on your swimmers and join in the carol singing on Bondi Beach. Forget Turkey, it’s all about prawns on the Barbie here and having a great time whether you’re young or old.
