10 After-Care Tips for Hair Removal

Hair removal is becoming increasingly popular with members of today’s society and the reasons may vary for considering the procedure. Whether it is a way to reduce the hair on your eyebrows, get ready for the summer and the possibility of wearing those tiny bikinis, or improve your chances of getting hired for that new job, there are things you need to be aware of after the procedure has been completed. Here are some basic after-care tips that will help lessen unwanted side effects and make your hair removal experience a pleasant one.

1. Keep it cool. Removing the hair from any part of your body is a change that you may not be accustomed to. A cold compress is a great way to compensate for any discomfort or irritation you may experience after the fact.

2. Hair delay. Because we will now be dealing with sensitive skin and additional discomfort, the use of specific skin care products that are triggers, such as glycolic or alpha hydroxy should be avoided, at least until the affected area has properly healed.

3. Careful please. After any medical procedure, the patient will usually have to allow themselves time to recoup. Although this procedure may not be invasive, the affected areas will be tender and should be handled with care.

4. Stress relievers on hold. Warm temperatures have been known to trigger an adverse reaction after a hair removal procedure has been completed. Although the temptation may be there, stay away from activities like saunas and tanning salons for at least 48 hours, giving ample time to recoup.

5. Adjusting your pleasures. Patients who have hair removed are susceptible to introducing bacteria into their bloodstream. For this reason we should be extremely careful in our behavior, we should abstain from sexual activities for at least 48 hours to avoid the possibility of an infection.

6. Expect to be late. If you make plans to go out after the procedure, leave plenty of time to take a shower, or go without. Showers or baths should be delayed for a minimum of 2 hours after any procedure.

7. Choose carefully. Some of us may not be as picky as to what we use on our skin. This method of thinking might work for some people, however, there are consequences to what you apply on the affected areas of your skin after the procedure has been completed.

8. Not just yet. As great as the temptation may be to try out that new bikini after a hair removal procedure, you will need to delay anything that involves direct sunlight to the affected areas.

9. Wardrobe changes. Where sensitive skin is involved, it is wise to avoid coming in contact with the area. Whether you plan on staying home, or stepping out with friends, the clothes you wear should fit loosely, if only to avoid further irritation.

10. Dealing with the odor. And finally, if the procedure that was done involves the underarm area, you should avoid the harsh ingredients of underarm deodorant, as this will only intensify the irritation and possibly cause an adverse reaction to the affected area.
